[Invited Lecture] Cross-polarization reduction of a Ku-band phased array with a rotatable polarization plane

(in English) The authors have been developing a Ku-band phased array that can change the main-beam direction and the polarization plane by the control of the excitation phase of radiating elements.
Right-hand and left-hand circular polarizations radiated from dual circularly polarized elements are combined to generate a linearly polarized wave, whose polarization plane changes depending on the phase difference between the two circular polarizations.
Beam steering is performed by changing the excitation phase among the radiating elements.
In the present work, a four-element linear array of dual circularly polarized patch antennas operating in the Ku-band for uplink (13.75--14.5,GHz) is connected to a beamformer, and beam steering and polarization plane control via excitation phase control are validated by measurement.
Furthermore, the cross polarization is reduced to below $-25$,dB by correcting the excitation coefficients, including small amount of amplitude, based on the measured active electric field of the radiating elements.
The loss due to the amplitude correction is below 1.2,dB.
