Three-dimensional indoor environmental measurement using Ultla Wide Band

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In the design of offices and buildings, it has become an issue how to create spaces where people can spend their time comfortably. In particular, it is said that environmental performance such as illuminance and temperature affects the efficiency of people's work. In recent years, the task-ambient method, in which bias is created between the work area and other areas in these conditions, is being used to save energy and improve comfort. The disadvantage of this method is that it is more difficult to design a space using this method because it intentionally creates a bias in illuminance and temperature. Therefore, we would like to measure the bias of illuminance and temperature in the office and make a three-dimensional plot to help design these spaces. However, the three-dimensional measurement method currently used has problems in terms of cost and difficulty.
In this study, we fabricated a prototype of a three-dimensional indoor environment measurement device using a UWB unit and conducted measurements in a real environment to investigate its usefulness as a low-cost and simple three-dimensional indoor environment measurement method and the issues to be solved for its practical use. As a result, it became possible to measure a wide range of three-dimensional environments easily with a compact device. In addition, we found some issues to be solved for practical use.
