A Study of Underwater Optical Wireless Communications Using THP

(in English) In this article, the effect of Tomlinson-Harashima Precoding (THP) as a pre-equalizer for bandwidth compensation and inter-symbol interference suppression have been investigated by computer simulations and transmission experiments in underwater optical wireless communications. The results show that the peak amplitude of the THP output can be moderated by about 18% compared to the FIR type pre-equalizer output, and the THP is also effective in suppressing the DC offset fluctuation. The eye diagram and bit error have been measured and evaluated by underwater transmission experiments. It is shown that the received optical power required to achieve a bit error rate of 10-3 can be reduced by about 2 dB when THP was applied.
