Electrical characteristics of single electron transistors fabricated by two-step immersion in gold colloidal solution

(in English) In this research, we aimed to realize a 6-terminal single-electron device using gold nanoparticles as island electrodes. By creating resist holes in the nanogap between the source and drain electrodes followed by immersing the substrate in a colloidal gold solution twice, a random array of gold nanoparticles was formed. The surfaces of gold electrodes were modified by an insulating layer of decandithiol, which were used as tunnel barriers. Electrical properties were measured in liquid helium (4.2K). We investigated the characteristics of random arrays of gold nanoparticle. For 1-input current-voltage characteristics, different responses were obtained between the terminals. Although the nonlinear properties were not strong, 2-input current-voltage characteristics suggested possible applications to reservoir computing.
