[Invited Lecture] Study on utilization of higher-frequency space communications for 6G

(in English) In the fifth generation mobile communications system (5G), the use of non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) is standardized, and the practical application of systems using low-orbit satellites and high-altitude platforms is being considered. The sixth generation mobile communications system (6G) is expected to exploit the development of systems that take advantage of the wide-area connectivity, stability, and economic efficiency of NTNs. On the other hand, the use of high frequency bands such as terahertz waves is planned for 5G, and the development of satellite communication systems using space optical communication is also underway. The Consultative Committee for Space Data System (CCSDS), which defines standardized technologies for space communications, is currently developing standard technologies for the commercialization of optical satellite communications. Therefore, it is expected that the 6G system can be upgraded by applying high frequency band and optical space communications. In this talk, we discuss the system configuration and technology of such high frequency band space communication in 6G.
