[Tutorial Lecture] Image Processing Techniques for Low-Dimensional Color Spaces

(in English) In accordance with the widespread use of the Internet, smartphone, digital camera, and so on, color images have become familiar in our daily lives. Various information is expressed using difference of colors in color images. In general, a color is represented as a point in a three-dimensional color space. However, in certain circumstances, it becomes necessary to express the color in the low-dimensional color space. A monochrome image is expressed in the one-dimensional color space which consists by lightness component. That is, three-dimensional color information should be made one-dimensional when the color removal of image is carried out. Furthermore, the number of dimensions of the valid color space for dichromats is two and it is necessary that considering color distribution in two-dimensional color space to make high-contrast image for them. In this report, the image processing techniques to obtain good images in the low-dimensional color space are explained.
