The purpose of this study is to develop a communication support system using pupil diameter measurement data for patients who have difficulty moving their limbs, such as ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) patients. For this purpose, we will conduct basic experiments for the development of the system using healthy subjects. In the future, we will conduct evaluation experiments of the prototype system on healthy subjects and ALS patients. In the basic experiments mainly on healthy subjects, each image is processed into High Spatial Frequency (HSF) and Low Spatial Frequency (LSF) states using a high-pass filter and a low-pass filter, respectively. The HSF state of image 1 and the LSF state of image 2 are superimposed to create the first hybrid image. The LSF state of image 1 is then superimposed on the HSF state of image 2 to create a second hybrid image. The hybrid images are used as the stimulus image, and the two overlapping images are used as the two alternatives. In the experiment, the two hybrid images alternate at different frequencies. Then analyze changes in pupil diameter as the target switches back and forth between HSF and LSF states at different switching frequencies and identify the image that the subject pays attention to. Based on the above results, we proposed and evaluated a communication support system for the patients. |
