Weakly nonlinear propagation of focused ultrasound in the liquid containing many spherical bubbles is theoretically investigated for a low invasive cancer treatment by HIFU. The KZK equation, which has been widely used as the simplified physico-mathematical model for HIFU propagation in pure liquid, is extended that for bubbly liquids by utilizing the volume-averaged basic equations based on two-fluid model for bubbly liquids. The resultant KZK equation consistently describes the nonlinear propagation of focused ultrasound, the nonlinear oscillation of bubbles, the thermal conduction and the temperature fluctuation of gas inside bubbles. Moreover, the numerical calculation utilizing the resultant KZK equation is carried out and moderate temperature rise for applications of cancer treatment by HIFU are obtained. |
