As virtual communication has become increasingly active in recent years, a wide range of people are engaged in live-streaming activities using avatars. In general, avatars are manipulated either by motion capture or by playing back pre-defined motions. However, the former approach is costly and difficult to implement, while the latter has limited range of expression. We propose a method to easily and expressively manipulate avatars by combining keyboard mode selection and hand motion input. We evaluated the effectiveness of the proposed method by comparing it with a baseline method that uses keyboard input to play back pre-defined motions, and found that viewers are more likely to prefer a broadcast where the avatar motions are produced with the proposed method compared to the baseline method. |
