A Study on Wireless Communication System Using Standalone Intelligent Reflecting Surface and Resource Allocation Method by Quantum Computing

(in English) Intelligent reflecting surface (IRS), which enables control of propagation characteristics, has attracted attention as a technology that can greatly improve energy use efficiency in 6th generation mobile communication systems. In order to properly design the phase shift for each reflective element of IRS, it is necessary to obtain the channel information for each element. However, this process is not realistic because the overhead is too large. In addition, when multiple carriers share an IRS for communication, setting the phase shift according to a specific carrier may have a negative impact on other carriers. In this report, we propose a wireless communication system using a standalone IRS that addresses these issues. The proposed standalone IRS covers a wide range by periodically switching phase shifts synchronized with GPS/GNSS. The switching schedule of the phase shift is determined in advance and shared within the system, and the CPU/BS performs resource allocation control in accordance with the schedule. We formulate QUBO to realize optimal resource allocation by quantum computing, and show through simulations that efficient communication can be realized by the proposed QUBO.
