The wireless communication systems used to communicate between train crews and despatchers are necessary for railway operations. In recent years, communications based train control systems have also been introduced. Most of these wireless communication systems consist of private networks, in which the railway operators own and operate their own equipment. On the other hand, in the public network, 5th Generation Mobile Communication System(5G) services were started by mobile network operators in 2020, and their use in industrial applications are also attracting attention. In railways, 5G is also expected to improve the functionality of current applications and introduce new applications. Therefore, this paper reports on the results of a basic verification conducted using local 5G with the aim of utilizing the public 5G network for railway operations. |
