We have constructed an EDF laser in a sigma cavity configuration (EDFσL) using a double-pass cascaded-chirped long-period fiber grating (C-CLPG) for a displacement measurement. In this configuration, the double-pass C-CLPG consists of a C-CLPG and a Faraday rotator mirror (FRM), and works as a reflective sensor section with a comb-like spectrum and allows for flexible sensor configurations. In addition, it has a function to compensate for birefringence fluctuations during sensing operation by introducing the FRM. In the experiment, real-time displacement measurement by the EDFσL is demonstrated based on the bending characteristics of the C-CLPG. Further, it is confirmed that the proposed EDFσL shows a more stable oscillation due to the birefringence compensation effect than the previous single-pass C-CLPG-based EDF ring laser, enabling more precise measurements. |
