Design of Coordinated Multi-Point Beamforming for Millimeter-Wave OFDM With Random Blockage

(in English) This paper studies the beamforming design of coordinated multi-point (CoMP) using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) over millimeter-wave (mmWave) channels with random blockages. To mitigate the effect of the blockages, a minimization problem on the sum of the outage probability is formulated to jointly design the beamformers, the rate allocation, and the power allocation over subcarriers. To solve the problem efficiently, a block stochastic learning exploiting prior knowledge of the path blockages is introduced. Moreover, an initial beamforming design is also proposed, which improves the convergence behavior. Numerical results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach with the proposed initialization in terms of the outage probability and convergence. Furthermore, we show that the outage performance of the proposed approach only with the blockage probabilities is comparable to that of the CoMP transmission with the perfect knowledge of the instantaneous channel realizations.
