In this paper, impact of phase noise for performance of multidimensional coded modulation is studied. In order to construct high-rate and reliable wireless communication systems, millimeter wave band is expected to be utilized because it is easy to secure a wide bandwidth. Quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) is utilized in many of current wireless communication systems. To increase the transmission data rate, use of high-order QAM signals is one of the promising methods. However, higher-order QAM causes degradation of bit error rate (BER) characteristics as well as being significantly affected by phase noise, especially in high-frequency bands such as millimeter wave. In this paper, we improve this issue by applying multidimensional trellis coded modulation-QAM (MD TCM-QAM). Assuming single-carrier transmission using millimeter waves, the impact of phase noise was evaluated by BER performance. It is demonstrated that impact of phase noise in MD TCM-QAM is about 2 dB less than that in conventional coded QAM. |
