Comparison of memory results between handwritten input and keyboard input
Reina Sato, Hiroshi Kadota (KUT) HIP2022-51
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) As the implementation of ICT advances, there are more opportunities to learn using a keyboard in education. Therefore, in this study, we compared the effects of keyboard-based learning with handwriting-based learning. Participants transcribed sentences using handwriting or a keyboard. Thereafter, they took memory tests using handwriting or a keyboard. The results showed that performance was better when the input method was consistent with transcription and the test. Particularly, when administering the test with handwritten input, participants who transcribed using handwriting performed better than using a keyboard. These results suggest that there is a context-dependent effect of input method and that it is preferable to use handwriting when writing a transcript.
