Aggregation of BPSK Signals Using Coherent Interference for Modulation Format Conversion to 8QAM Signal

(in English) Modulation format conversion is useful for connecting networks with different modulation schemes. In this study, we propose a modulation format conversion from BPSK to 8QAM based on coherent interference using a delay interferometer. The BPSK format is usually used for optical communications in submarine communication networks, while the 8QAM format is expected to be applied to long-distance terrestrial communication networks due to its good balance of transmission capacity and reach. As for the conversion performance, the BER characteristics, constellation diagram, and the relationship between the propagation lengths of BPSK and 8QAM are calculated, and the results show that error-free conversion is possible.
