Basic Investigation of Si Photonics-Based Compact Wavelength Locker Chip

(in English) In this paper, we propose a compact Si photonics-based wavelength locker as well as a wavelength monitoring method for the compact tunable laser modules for the short reach coherent transceivers used for beyond-400 Gb/s Ethernet. Si photonics allows the wavelength locker function to be integrated onto a small chip. Although the Si photonics chip generally needs to be kept at a constant temperature due to its large thermo-optical coefficient, introducing our wavelength monitoring method enables the wavelength locker chip and the laser to operate together on the same TEC without a separate means of keeping the temperature of the chip constant. Moreover, we fabricated and evaluated the first chip of the wavelength locker. As a result of the measurement, it was found that the chip has expected characteristics for our wavelength locker, and we believe that this wavelength locker will be a promising device for the construction of compact tunable lasers for the digital coherent transceivers used in future data center networks.
