In this study, we conducted two experiments, one in which participants were asked which of two apertures consisting of three human-like objects on a PC screen participants felt was wider (Experiment A), and the other in which they were asked which of the two apertures they passed through (Experiment B). In each experiment, eight conditions were presented. These conditions consisted of different orientations of three human-like objects. The results of Experiment A showed that there was a significant difference in the aperture perceived to be wider only in the condition in which the human-like object was oriented from left to right, left-right-left and right-left-right. In Experiment B, there were significant differences in the choice of the aperture to pass through in all eight conditions. In addition, the aperture in the orientation that the central human-like object was not facing tended to be selected.
These results indicate that the orientation of the human-like object affects the selection of the aperture when participants pass through it. |
