Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) When a service chain is constructed in a data center network, the total transmission delay is expected to be reduced by appropriately placing its virtual network functions (VNFs) and selecting the transmission route in the data center. However, it is difficult to utilize the delay information for the service chain construction if the information is derived by simulation. This is because the simulation needs a long time to calculate the valid delay information. In this paper, we propose a delay analysis model of the total transmission delay for multiple service chains for a data center whose topology is fat-tree. Because the proposed delay analysis model can take into account the input/output traffic to/from the data center, it can be used to derive the total delay of service chains that pass through multiple data centers. The delay analysis model assumes that the VNF placement in each service chain is randomly determined, and derives the expected amount of traffic at each layer based on the structure of the fat-tree topology. Then, the expected delay between two consecutive VNFs is derived, and from the derived expected values, we can derive the expected delay in a case where an arbitrary number of VNFs are deployed. The proposed analytical model was compared and evaluated under different service chain configuration conditions.
