To cope with the increase of communication traffic, we need to expand the communication capacity of short-haul optical fiber communication systems. As a solution, the introduction of a coherent receiver that enables demodulation of QAM signals has been studied. On the other hand, cost-effectiveness is the most important for short-haul optical fiber communication systems, so it is desirable to use inexpensive lasers and eliminate the use of costly optical amplifiers. In such systems, phase noise and modulation loss are the factors that determine the transmission quality of the system. In this paper, we propose a modulation and demodulation scheme that achieves high phase noise tolerance and low modulation loss simultaneously. The proposed scheme is realized by an auto-encoder that simultaneously learns the effects of phase noise and modulation loss. The effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed through simulations. |
