High resolution observation of volcano crater using circular synthetic aperture radar -- Theoretical study --

(in English) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is a signal processing technique that realizes a large-aperture radar observation by using a small-aperture radar mounted on a linearly moving radar platform. In general, the spatial resolution of the linear SAR is determined by the frequency bandwidth of the transmitted signal and the aperture length of the radar. In the erath remote sensing, we often face missions that observe small areas in detail. A specific example is the observation of volcanic craters. As mentioned above, the resolution of the linear SAR is determined by hardware requirements, and it is generally difficult to achieve high-resolution observation. In this study, we aim at a ground surface observation with high-resolution using Circular SAR (CSAR). CSAR has higher resolution than linear SAR and radar shadows less occur due to all-around observation. In this study, we assume the ground surface observation using CSAR with an airborne SAR, and discuss its feasibility and analysis method. This paper summarizes the basic analysis method and qualitative performance of CSAR.
