Indoor Multipath Cluster Channel Characteristics at 60 and 300 GHz

(in English) This paper presents a comparative investigation of extensive high-resolution double-directional channel measurements conducted at both bands in a medium-sized conference room. It compares the results obtained for the current campaign to that obtained from an earlier campaign at 60 GHz for a similar setup. In curious contrast to our intuition, we observed a similar number of clusters for both the bands under investigation for all the transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) positions from the obtained power delay profiles (PDP). Any deviation was theorized to be caused either due to the usage of lower measurement bandwidth in the 60 GHz campaign or due to limited elevation expanse in the 300 GHz measurement. To validate our theory and be motivated by the nature of the PDPs at either band provided, we investigated the results by generating corresponding azimuth delay power spectra (ADPS) and angular power spectra (APS). An intuitive ray tracing strategy based on the obtained result in the measurement environment and validated by simulated ray tracing was used to understand the cluster formation. It was observed that specular phenomena could effectively explain all the significant clusters.
