Wideband design of a single-layer dual-band multi-ring microstrip antenna fed by an L-probe

(in English) This paper presents wideband design of a single-layer dual-band multi-ring microstrip antenna (MR-MSA) fed by an L-probe. The proposed antenna consists of two split ring patches arranged concentrically and a feeding L-shaped probe (L-probe) placed on a single-layer dielectric substrate. The two patches are excited by the L-probe and resonate at two different frequencies. In order to realize wideband operation, a thick dielectric substrate with a thickness of approximately 0.1 wavelengths is used. The design frequencies of the proposed antenna are around 9.5 GHz and 13 GHz. In this paper, wideband design of the proposed single-layer dual-band MR-MSA fed by an L-probe is studied by both simulation and measurement. The measured results reveal that the frequency ranges below -10 dB reflection are 8.89 to 10.26 GHz for the lower frequency band (1st mode) and 12.3 to 13.61 GHz for the higher frequency band (2nd mode). The fractional bandwidths of the two modes are 14.2 % and 10.1 %, respectively. It is demonstrated that the proposed single-layer dual-band and wideband MR-MSA fed by an L-probe exhibits good broadband performance.
