A Study on Multiuser Wireless Powered MIMO Relay Transmission with Interference

(in English) In this paper, multiuser wireless powered MIMO relay transmission is investigated for potential wireless sensor networks (WSN) applications. WSN is expected to be utilized in various IoT applications such as monitoring of natural environment. One key issue for deployment of WSN is lifetime of wireless terminals because frequent maintenance will be difficult despite the limited battery capacity. In this paper, we focus on the fact that interference from surrounding wireless terminals is a source of energy during RF energy harvesting (RF-EH) in the section where communication is idle. We have investigated a method of MIMO relay transmission of data from multiple sensor terminals by a relay station incorporating RF-EH function. Outage probability and system operating duration have been evaluated and compared in the cases of single-stream transmission and multi-stream transmission in MIMO, with respect to the received signal-to-interference power ratio (SIR).
