[Poster Presentation] A Prototype of IoT-based River Flood Monitoring and Evaluation -- MQTT Brokers Connected in Tandem --

(in English) The developing countries in Southeast Asia are constantly exposed to the risk of river floods during typhoons and cyclones. River floods can be detected early in advance by monitoring water levels in the river in real-time. In this paper, we propose an architecture of low-cost IoT-based river flood monitoring system using MQTT brokers in tandem connection. We implemented a prototype of this system of which QoS levels in MQTT protocol suited for this system were evaluated in light of packet sizes and latency. We also discussed how this system could be employed in practical scenario in detecting early sign of river flooding. As the results of experiments, QoS level 1 was selected as practically the best choice for the system. We tried a statistical analysis of change-point detection on the time-series obtained from the trial operation of the prototype system. It was found that this method could be employed as a supporting tool for detection of early sign of river flooding.
