In order to investigate the emission mechanism of carbon nanotubes (CNTs),we calculated the field emission currents of 9 kinds of CNTs using the time-dependent density functional theory. It was found that there is a difference of about two orders of magnitude in emission current between the models. To investigate what causes this difference, we calculated the penetration of the electron penetration into the vacuum under the presence of electric field (E = 7.5×10^7 V/cm) and absence of electric field (E = 0 V/cm) for each energy level. It was revealed that, in 7 of the 9 models, there is a "correlation" and a "strong correlation" between the emission current and the penetration of electrons into the vacuum in the absence of an electric field. |
