| (in English) | Food-based gender stereotypes (GS) have been reported to be measured as explicit and implicit attitudes in questionnaires and semantic priming tasks (e.g., Kimura et al., 2009, 2012). We examined whether GS and attractiveness with food images were affected by gendered background color. In the explicit attitude measure of Experiment 1, the participants placed food images with colored background according to their gender and attractiveness congruence. We found that when background color and food gender matched, gender increased more than when they were mismatched or neutral. However, background color did not affect the attractiveness of the food. In Experiment 2, implicit attitudes were measured in a semantic priming task. Food images with colored backgrounds were the prime stimuli, and male and female names were the target stimuli. The results showed that when the genderedness of the food and background color matched, the response to the target stimulus was faster. Thus, the present study suggests that the genderedness of background color can affect both explicit and implicit attitudes toward food GS. | |
