Evaluation of Power Generation of Photovoltaic Panel on EVs with Cell- and Substring-Level Differential Power Processing Converters Using 3D Model

(in English) Photovoltaic panels for electric vehicles receive uneven solar radiation due to the curved roof. It can result in significantly reduced power generation because of variations in panel characteristics among cells and substrings. Differential power processing (DPP) converters have been proposed to address uneven panel characteristics issues. In this paper, simulations with a 3D model of curved panels are performed to evaluate energy generation when DPP converters are introduced in the cells and substrings. Comparing several regions and seasons, the conditions under which DPP converters installation is highly effective are shown. The partially shaded experiment for four cells achieved 10.5% improvement in power generation, demonstrated the effectiveness of DPP converters for panel characteristic variation.
