[Short Paper] Study of WiFi Beamforming Feedback-Based Respiratory and Heart Rates Estimation

(in English) This paper introduces respiration and heart rate estimation based on beamforming feedback (BFF). While BFF has attracted attention as an alternative feature to channel state information (CSI) in the field of WiFi sensing, its applicability to vital sign monitoring has not been addressed except for respiration rate estimation. To further investigate the applicability of BFF to vital sign monitoring, this study realizes BFF-based heart rate estimation. Using the compressed BFF matrix and subcarrier-averaged stream gain contained in BFF, a signal processing-based algorithm estimates the heart rate. Therein, respiration rate is simultaneously estimated. For the simultaneous estimation of respiration and heart rate, discrete wavelet transform is used to separate the respiration and heartbeat signals. The performance of BFF-based respiration and heart rate estimation is evaluated through indoor experiments using commodity WiFi devices. Also, the performance degradation of BFF-based estimation is evaluated compared with CSI-based estimation.
