Proposal of Polarity Management Method for Practical Use of Multicore Fiber

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Each core of uncoupled multicore fiber (MCF) can be identified by a marker placed asymmetrically against the core pattern. This generates polarity at both ends of the MCF. In MCF-to-MCF connection, the core numbers to be connected depend on the combination of polarity states of the two MCFs. Therefore, the polarity management of MCFs is required when constructing MCF links. However, it may cause the increase in burden and trouble in cable manufacturing and link construction. This paper describes the nature of polarity in MCF connectivity and proposes novel core number management method which is less sensitive to polarity.
