Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In order to achieve natural dialogue with a dialogue system, it is necessary to resolve dialogue breakdowns. However, while many studies have been conducted and methods established for detecting dialogue breakdowns, relatively few studies have focused on dialogue breakdown avoidance, i.e., how to avoid dialogue breakdowns after they are detected, and no clear method has been established. In this study, we propose a method for avoiding dialogue breakdowns by having the system return excuses. Excuses are mainly defined as excuses or apologies for one's own failures or negligence. If this is applied to a dialog system, a dialog failure can be interpreted as a failure or negligence from the system's point of view. Based on the above, we created a module that avoids dialogue failure by returning an excusive response that gives a good impression to the user, and implemented it in a dialogue system. In addition, two types of experiments were conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method: an impression evaluation experiment from the subjective viewpoint, which assumes actual operation of the system, and an impression evaluation experiment from the objective viewpoint, which qualitatively evaluates the content of the dialogue.
