A Greedy Algorithm for the Minimum-Entropy Coupling Problem

(in English) The Minimum-Entropy coupling problem is the problem of finding a joint distribution that achieves the minimum entropy for a given set of marginal distributions. The problem is NP-hard, and several algorithms have been proposed to find approximate solutions. We extend our algorithm for the minimum entropy coupling problem with two marginal distributions presented and propose a greedy algorithm for a given set of three or more marginal distributions. Computer experiments show that the proposed algorithm generates a joint distribution with smaller entropy on average than one obtained by the known algorithms for a given set of marginal distributions.
