Spectral analysis of synchropahsor data in a campus distribution grid: Comparison of numerical methods

(in English) Recently, the so-called micro-Phasor Measurement Unit (μPMU) with high-resolution capability has been expected as a new data-driven technology for analysis and control of the future power distribution system.
Time-series data derived by μPMU, which we call synchrophasor data in this report, are typically non-stationary and nonlinear due to the complex nature of the distribution grid.
In this report, we analyze non-stationary time-series data on voltage-phase difference derived by multiple μPMUs for the campus distribution grid at Osaka Metropolitan University, Japan.
The analysis is based on the so-called Short-Term Koopman Mode Decomposition (STKMD) that is developed to estimate spectra, precisely, eigenvalues of the Koopman operator for a nonlinear nonautonomous system (as a latent model of the dynamics of the distribution system).
The STKMD applied to synchrophasor data is compared with the short-term Fourier transformation, which is another method of spectrum estimation from non-stationary time-series data.
