Frame Synchronization of Modified MPPM in RGB-LED based Parallel Transmission Scheme

(in English) In this paper, a frame synchronization method for modified multi-pulse pulse position modulation (MMPPM) scheme in RGB-LED based parallel transmission scheme is proposed. In the MMPPM system, data transmission is performed by dividing an MPPM frame consisting of N slots into 2 slots and N-2 slots. In this method, 1-bit data is represented by binary pulse position modulation (BPPM) using the first 2 slots, and $log_2(_{N-2}C_{M-1})$-bit data is represented by MPPM generating M-1 pulses in the remaining N-2 slots. This proposed synchronization method, which is one of the internal synchronization methods, acquires frame synchronization by utilizing the fact that one pulse always occurs in the first two slots. This paper presents theoretical formulas for the data transmission efficiency and the symbol error rate in the complete frame synchronization timing. Moreover, theoretical formulas for the time to maintain correct frame timing, denoted retention time, and the time required for restoring processing for restoring an frame timing to a normal position, denoted recovery time, are derived. It is shown that the proposed scheme can maintain frame synchronization timing while having the same symbol error rate performance and data transmission efficiency as the conventional MPPM scheme. The optimal number of counter stages for observing signs of out-of-sync is set by the required recovery time and retention time.
