A method to improve fairness among GWs inspired by heterogeneous symbiosis in LoRaWAN networks

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) With the recent development of the Internet of Things (IoT), demand for LPWA (Low Power Wide Area), a long-distance, power-saving wireless communication technology, is increasing. In LoRaWAN, performance is optimized by gateway's assignment of the spreading factor of chirped spread spectrum to each terminal. However, when multiple gateways in close proximity control terminals independently, performance would considerably differ among them due to differences in characteristics such as terminal placement and traffic demands. Since the total optimization is difficult by direct or coordinated control of gateways providing different services, in this paper, we propose a method to improve the fairness between gateways by indirect control. For this purpose, we take an inspiration from the biological symbiosis where multiple species competing the same resources can live together under dynamically changing environments. Simulation evaluations show that the proposed method successfully improves the fairness among gateways.
