We propose a partial secret key update method for AES cryptography using sensors that can detect physical attacks on cryptographic circuits with high resolution. Two types of physical attack sensors are used: bulk current sensors and touch sensors. When a physical attack is detected by these, the bit sequence of the possibly compromised secret key is partially updated based on the location information of the attack. We implemented a chip based on this technique, and were able to realize a highly efficient partial key update AES cryptoprocessor that is lightweight and can operate with low power consumption. |
