Estimation of Drowsiness While Driving Using Autonomic Nervous System-related Indicators Based on Photoplethysmogram

(in English) The occurrence of drowsiness while driving is a social problem because it causes accidents. Therefore, a method to assess the intensity of drowsiness while driving is needed. In this study, we focused on autonomic nervous activity and estimated the three states of no, mild and severe drowsiness from the autonomic nervous system-related indicators obtained from photoplethysmogram with experiment of a driving simulator.
As a result, Recall of classification accuracy was greater than 85% for all subjects, and Accuracy and Specificity were greater than 90% for all subjects. The result indicated the effectiveness of the estimation of the three states of drowsiness.
