Various airborne ultrasonic sound sources and ultrasonic emitters have been developed to emit airborne ultrasonic waves. In general, in order to control the phase of the sound wave emitted from these devices, the phase of the input signal to the device should be electrically controlled. On the other hand, another method is required to control the phase of the sound waves once radiated into free space.
In this research, the use of a thin film is proposed and verified as a method of controlling the phase of sound waves in free space. Specifically, we focus on the sound transmission characteristics of thin films and verify the phase characteristics of transmitted sound waves.
In previous research, we used a PVDC film with a thickness of about 10 µm as the thin film, and verified the phase of the transmitted sound wave when airborne ultrasonic waves (20 kHz) were continuously irradiated.
As a result, it was experimentally confirmed that the phase control up to about 120° is possible by transmitting the sound wave through the thin film. On the other hand, the sound radiation characteristics of the sound waves that pass through the thin film when irradiated with airborne ultrasound with a short duration such as pulse waves have not been verified. |
