Correlation Between Grid Masks in an Explanation Method for Image Classification
Kentaro Matsumoto, Yuji Ayatsuka (CRESCO) MI2023-5
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) One of the approaches to visualize the basis for image classification by machine learning is to use output values when classifying input images with different masks. This approach provides independence from the classification method, but requires high computational cost due to repeated classification. DiDA, which we are developing, is a visualization methods that captures changes in output values using multi-size grid-based masks. In this method, if masking a large grid causes a small change in the output values, masking a small grid that is completely contained within it is expected to cause a small change as well, so that we could omit the computation without quality degradation. In this paper, we investigate the effect of omitting calculations for small grids on disease classification from fundus OCT images and discuss the reduction in computational cost of DiDA.
