Miniaturization of a 920-MHz band helical antenna buried in the ground
Shuto Suzuki, Hitoshi Shimasaki (Kyoto Inst of Tech) MW2023-13
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A helical antenna operating in the 920-MHz band has been designed, fabricated and measured expecting an application of the wireless communication between underground and aboveground. This antenna was buried in the underground and radiated radiowaves toward the aboveground. A buried antenna in a pail of soil was modeled for simulation study. An axial-mode helical antenna was modified into a stub load helix and the miniaturized antenna was designed. A prototype antenna was fabricated and measured in the soil. The stub loaded helical antenna was able to reduce the base area by about 44% and the height by about 40% comparing to the previously reported helical antenna.
