Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Estimation of physical observables for unknown quantum states is an important problem that underlies a wide range of fields, including quantum information science, physics, and chemistry. In the context of quantum computation, in particular, existing studies have focused on either holistic tomography or a fixed observable whose classical description is known, while there are very few regarding the case where the estimation target itself relies on the measurement outcome. In this work, we propose a adaptive measurement optimization method that in particular is useful for quantum subspace expansion (QSE) method, which is a variational simulation method within classical postprocessing. The proposed method first determines the measurement protocol based on QSE result from classically simulatable state, and then adaptively updates the protocol according to the quantum measurement result. As a numerical demonstration, we have shown for molecules such as $H_2$ and LiH that, we are able to reduce the number of measurements by an order of magnitude, even with the measurement protocol constructed solely from classical preprocessing. Our work reveals that the potential of the QSE method can be empowered by elaborated measurement protocols, and opens a path to pursue optimal quantum measurement techniques.
