Microwave-assisted magnetization switching is a technology, which can reduce the switching field by applying a GHz-band microwave magnetic field. The technology enables to increase magnetic recording density further, by employing media with higher magnetic anisotropy. It has been pointed out that the frequency dependence of the reversal field and the behavior of the critical frequency at which the assist effect disappears depends greatly on the samples, and there is a large discrepancy between the experiments and the calculations. We have found that thermal fluctuations have a significant effect on the behavior of microwave-assisted magnetization switching in the experiments. In this paper, we briefly review the thermal activation process in microwave-assisted magnetization switching and report the experimental results for nanostructures of Co/Pt multilayer. |
