With the rapid spread of short-range wireless communications, wearable devices have developed remarkably, especially in wireless body area networks (BANs). The specifications for the physical layer and medium access control layer (MAC) of BANs are standardized in IEEE 802.15.6 Task Group (TG) 6ma. The IEEE 802.15.6ma standard can provide a good solution to the coexistence problem in BANs with highly reliable MAC architecture. In this study, the effectiveness of MAC protocols based on the IEEE 802.15.6ma standard under coexistence conditions was investigated. The basic performance of the proposed MAC protocol for IEEE 802.15.6ma was evaluated by computer simulation in terms of packet error rate (PER), throughput, and transmission delay time. |
