A Study on Low Power Consumption by Optimizing Communication Rate in PON System for Mobile Networks

(in English) Traffic is increasing year by year due to the increase in the number of telework users triggered by the recent spread of infectious diseases and the increase in large-capacity content such as 5G high-definition video transmission that started in 2020. In general, traffic fluctuates greatly depending on the number of people staying in the area and the time of day, so a fixed, large-capacity communication rate wastes power. Therefore, it is desirable to operate without wasting power consumption by setting the communication rate according to traffic fluctuations. We are conducting research and development on a mobile PON system with large capacity and low power consumption. This time, we propose a method that dynamically allocates the optimal communication method/rate according to the amount of traffic estimated from actual human flow data, and also report the results of calculating the power consumption value.
