Study of Performances with Coupler Structures for Reflective Phase Shifters

(in English) In this study, we investigated the impact of changing the hybrid coupler used in a reflective phase shifter on its performance. Initially, simulations were conducted for a phase shifter using a branch-line coupler, which is easily implementable. This phase shifter exhibited very low insertion loss of SI{-0.23}{dB} at SI{5.75}{GHz}. Subsequently, we replaced it with a Lange coupler utilizing interdigital capacitors. It was observed that $|S_{21}|$ increased to SI{-0.68}{dB} at SI{5.75}{GHz}. However, with the Lange coupler-based phase shifter, the bandwidth where $|S_{11}|<-10,si{dB}$ extended from SI{4.2}{GHz} to SI{6.2}{GHz}, a span of SI{2.0}{GHz}. This widening of the bandwidth was confirmed to be more than twice as large as that of the branch-line coupler. Furthermore, experiments simplifying the structure of the Lange coupler also verified this broadband improvement.
