[Invited Lecture] Development and demonstration of a multipath redundant communication to improve the reliability of connected autonomous vehicle
Jin Nakazato (UTOKYO) RCS2024-9
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Recently, as research and development and social implementation of Level 4 autonomous driving have steadily progressed, technical challenges and limitations have begun to be pointed out. In this context, connected autonomous vehicles, where various transportation systems collaboratively perform cognition, decision-making, and execution using communication technology, have gained attention. Particularly in use cases such as remote monitoring and operational support, there is a demand for higher reliability and lower latency. Meanwhile, 5G, which promises high-capacity and low-latency communications, has been undergoing various proof-of-concept experiments and is considered an important infrastructure for meeting remote collaboration needs. However, the current state of 5G focuses on expanding coverage areas and improving throughput, and not all functions defined by standardization bodies such as 3GPP have been implemented. Therefore, this research proposes a framework to improve QoS through multipath redundant communication using networks from multiple mobile communications operators. This framework implements a packet duplication function on the sender side and a buffering function on the receiver side. The results of field tests conducted in urban areas using the proposed framework are reported.
