Full-Swing PAM4 Modulation for Underwater Optical Wireless Communications using High-Power Transmitters with Strong Non-Linearity

(in English) This report proposes a full-swing PAM4 (FS-PAM4) modulation aimed at improving the unequally spaced levels of received PAM4 signals caused by the strong non-linearity of high-power transmitters (HP-Txs). The HP-Tx used in this study has a maximum output power of +27 dBm and operates at a wavelength of 455 nm. The FS-PAM4 modulation was tested over a 4.5 m underwater channel with 1 Gb/s of data rates, resulting in equally spaced levels and achieving a power budget of 17.2 dB, which corresponds to a potential transmission distance of 86 m with PAM4 modulation.
