Sub-wavelength grating NRD guide (SWG-NRD guide) can transmit single LSM01 mode even in the arbitrary bends
without exciting LSE01 mode. While prior work has focused on SWG-NRD simple structures, advanced devices with arbitrary
bends require further study to fully exploit this advantage. The Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) based 3-dB wavelength-in-
sensitive coupler (WINC) with arbitrary bends is an essential device in wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) systems. In
this study, we investigate the optimal design of SWG-NRD 3-dB MZI WINC utilizing the topology optimal matching circuit. We
numerically estimate the wavelength dependence of the designed WINC and compare it with that of a conventional directional
coupler (DC). The devices is efficiently analyzed by the recently established two-dimensional full-vectorial finite element method
(2D-FVFEM) for NRD guide. |
