Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) When a conversation was broke off, humans feel awkward, and unconsciously express verbal fillers such as "ummmm" and bodily fillers such as "touching own chin". These fillers have the effects of letting us share cooperative demeanor towards continuation and repair of the conversation. We postulate that silence makes conversations awkward even in human vs. robot conversations, and consider that conversational robot behaviors are need to be designed to carry cooperative demeanor to human partner. In the present study, we analyze effects of robot's verbal/bodily fillers on silence at turn-takings in conversations. The results show that human feels awkward even in silences with robot-human conversations and that robot's fillers carry sincerity and engagement to conversation, It has found that higher social skilled evaluators tend to treat that conversational robots have social entities than lower skilled group.
