Maximum symbol rate feasible for LED visible light communication is limited by the frame rate of CMOS camera when the image sensor is used as a receiver. Relationship between feasible symbol rate and the frame rate of CMOS camera is examined and the most suitable synchronization scheme is proposed when the symbol rate is close to the frame rate of the camera. Synchronization scheme applicable up to symbol rate limit for LED visible light communication with the low-frame-rate CMOS camera is verified experimentally using FPGA. BER characteristics are measured for the symbol rate.
